Equity, derived from the Latin word "aequitas," encapsulates the principle of impartiality, fairness, and justice.

Equity Unveiled

At the Macon-Bibb Equity Hub, we understand equity as the active pursuit of creating impartial opportunities and removing systemic barriers that hinder individuals from reaching their full potential.

We firmly believe that every person deserves access to the resources, support, and opportunities necessary to thrive, irrespective of their background or circumstances.

Our commitment to equity is rooted in fostering a community where fairness, inclusivity, and justice prevail, empowering all residents of Macon-Bibb to lead fulfilling lives and contribute to a more equitable society.

"Racial equity is about applying justice and a little bit of common sense to a system that's been out of balance.

When a system is out of balance, people of color feel the impacts most acutely, but, to be clear, an imbalanced system makes all of us pay."

EQUIVIEW

Equity ≠ Equality

  • Equity recognizes the same access and opportunities for everyone whereas equality may not effectively address individual needs. Tailored solutions and remedies, acknowledging diversity, become essential for addressing unique requirements across different individuals.

  • Equality ensures everyone possesses the same rights, opportunities, and resources, emphasizing equal access.      It functions optimally when existing systems are inherently fair. However, it follows a one-size-fits-all approach.
