May 1, 2023 - Q1 Report - According to data from the Code Enforcement data, properties with blighted conditions fall into three primary categories; those that are Nuisance per Se (1114) are the most noticeable instances of blight due to being near a major road or point of interest such as a school or church. Blight Tax Properties (2760) are those that have been sighted by the court system as being chronically  vacant, abandoned, and delipidated, and incur a 6x multiplier to annual property tax bill. Judicial In Rem - STS (3309) are properties that are delinquent in taxes, and are vacant, abandoned, and dilapidated if left unremedied; these properties are to be auctioned by the Tax Commissioner.

Based upon status updates and notes collected on each parcel it’s shown that of the 7,183 parcels tracked, 1,399 have had a positive outcome, leaving 5,784 known actively blighted coded parcels within Macon Bibb County.  Sixty have currently pending court cases, and fifty -three are in the que for immediate demolition under the NPS program..

When sorted by commission district the disparity between the various districts becomes apparent: the democratic districts(5) of the county contain 86% of the blight while the four republican districts contain 14% of blight. The highest concentration of blight is found within the county is in district two, 1,670 properties or 20% of the housing stock is coded as blighted. If the current average cost to demolish a blighted parcel is $5,000; and each of 5,784 parcels Coded as blighted only solution was demolition the cost to remove all would be approximately $29,00,000.
